John Cooper

John Cooper was born about 1824 in Tennessee, and died after 1886 in Marion County Arkansas.  He married (1)  Louisa.  She was born about 1823 in Tennessee,  He married (2) Susannah Dockery on September 6, 1869 in DeKalb County, Alabama.  She was born about 1830 in Tennessee.


The Captain John Cooper who married Susannah (Dockery) Sizemore in DeKalb County, Alabama on September 6, 1869.  This was in keeping with Jewish law as she was his widowed sister-in-law.  They then moved to Arkansas.  They may have kept their marriage secret in order not to complicate Susannah's window's pension on behalf of her deceased husband William Sizemore.  The John Cooper of John Cooper Associates who bought land in S 10 T5s R4E (Sand Mountain) on October 9, 1852.  If this is him, his middle initial is C.  "Johnny Cooper married a Sizemore in Marion County, Tennessee" John Cooper was known in later life as a Baptist minister who, according to Steve Adkins, performed marriages for many of Ezekiel Adkins' children.  John Cooper apparently served in the 3rd Arkansas Union Cavalry.  It loos like he moved to Marion County, Arkansas between 1850 and 1860.


Census:  1850 Dade County lives next door to Jackson and their mother, Jane Cooper

Fact:  July 2, 1861 enlisted as private in Dade County

Military service:  Captain in Union army in Arkansas

Notes for Louisa:  Louisa may have been a Sizemore.  She and John named a daugther Melinda, the name of one of the Sizemore girls.

Susannah Jane Dockery

 A John Cooper, said to be a Union Army officer married Susannah Sizemore in DeKalb County, Alabama on September 6, 1869.  Susannah moved to Arkansas to to be near her married children from her first marriage to William Sizemore.  She drew a pension in John Cooper's name already in Albabama and is reported to have been buried in a small cemetery in or near Pinall (Searcy County), Arkansas.  Could this be the same as the Captain J. William C. Sizemore

William C. Sizemore was born 1825 in GEorgia and died February 23 1864 Camp Chase Franklin County Ohio.  He was a Rebel soldier during the Civil WAr and died as a prisoner of war.  He married Susannah Dockery about 1848 in DAde County Georgia.  She was born 1830 in Tennesee and died in Pinesdell, Arkansas.  After Williams death, she married a COlonel John COoper September 6 1869 DeKalb County Alabama.   WILLIAM C SIZEMORE  was born 1825 in Georgia and died 23 Feb 1864 Camp Chase Franklin Co Ohio. He was a Rebel soldier during the Civil War and died as a prisoner of war. He married SUSANNAH DOCKERY about 1848 in Dade Co Georgia. She was born 1830 in Tennessee and died in Pinesdell Arkansas.
