William C. Sizemore

William C. Sizemore was born 1825 in GEorgia and died February 23 1864 Camp Chase Franklin County Ohio.  He was a Rebel soldier during the Civil WAr and died as a prisoner of war.  He married Susannah Dockery about 1848 in DAde County Georgia.  She was born 1830 in Tennesee and died in Pinesdell, Arkansas.  After Williams death, she married a COlonel John COoper September 6 1869 DeKalb County Alabama.

He married SUSANNAH DOCKERY about 1848 in Dade Co Georgia. She was born 1830 in Tennessee and died in Pinesdell Arkansas. After William's death, she married a Colonel JOHN COOPER 6 Sept 1869 DeKalb Co Alabama.

In the early 1860’s the Confederate Army formed a group called “Home Guard”.

William was out in his field plowing, he had taken a gun for protection against wild animals. The “Home Guard” showed up & claimed that William tried to bush-whack them.

The Confederate soldiers burned all the farm buildings, so there would be no hiding places.

William was hiding under the house and they told him “You little Rooster, you had better get out from under the house , or you will burn too.” William was only about 5’6” tall.

William was taken away to a prison camp in Indiana. He was allowed to take his razor and Bible.

The last time he was seen was going into the :Pox House” on a stretcher. He died in the “Pox house”.

There is no record of where he was buried. Probably a mass grave.

After William was taken away and because all the buildings were burned down except the “Out house”.

Susan & children lived there for awhile.

Susannah Jane Dockery

 A John Cooper, said to be a Union Army officer married Susannah Sizemore in DeKalb County, Alabama on September 6, 1869.  Susannah moved to Arkansas to to be near her married children from her first marriage to William Sizemore.  She drew a pension in John Cooper's name already in Albabama and is reported to have been buried in a small cemetery in or near Pinall (Searcy County), Arkansas.  Could this be the same as the Captain J. John Cooper

John Cooper was born about 1824 in Tennessee, and died after 1886 in Marion County Arkansas.  He married (1)  Louisa.  She was born about 1823 in Tennessee,  He married (2) Susannah Dockery on September 6, 1869 in DeKalb County, Alabama.  She was born about 1830 in Tennessee. The Captain John Cooper who married Susannah (Dockery) Sizemore in DeKalb County, Alabama on September 6, 1869.  This was in keeping with Jewish law as she was his widowed sister-in-law.  They then moved to Arkansas.  They may have kept their marriage secret in order not to complicate Susannah's window's pension on behalf of her deceased husband William Sizemore.  The John Cooper of John Cooper Associates who bought land in S 10 T5s R4E (Sand Mountain) on October 9, 1852.  If this is him, his middle initial is C.  "Johnny Cooper married a Sizemore in Marion County, Tennessee" John Cooper was known in later life as a Baptist minister who, according to Steve Adki...
